Den har fået sit navn af danske udvandrere fra Ringsted Danmark, som i 1899 slog sig ned i Emmet County i Iowa. Et besøg af turister fra søsterbyen i Iowa blev optakten til bekendtskabet i nyere tid. <br /> <br /> <br /> <br /> Derfor har vi venskabsbyer<br /> <br /> Formålet med samarbejdet er at:<br /> <br /> •styrke det nordiske fællesskab <br /> •bidrage til integreringen af de østeuropæiske lande (Gyöngyös i Ungarn og Kutná Hora i Tjekkiet) <br /> •udveksle erfaringer og oplevelser på politisk, forvaltnings-, institutions- og foreningsniveau <br /> •hjælpe borgere og foreninger i venskabskommunerne med at komme i kontakt med hinanden <br /> •udvikle og synliggøre vores samarbejde <br /> •skabe forståelse for anden levevis om den historiske udvikling <br /> <br /> Venskabsbysamarbejdet med de nordiske lande varetages af Foreningen Norden.<br /> Det centraleuropæiske samarbejde varetages af Ringsted Kommune og udfoldes løbende, når der opstår aktiviteter af fælles interesse. <br /> <br /> <br /> Der er ikke formelt samarbejde og udveksling med Ringsted i Iowa.</div>
